The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) has questioned the Centre’s handling of border security, citing alleged remarks by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujit Singh Kapoor about Chinese activity along the Arunachal Pradesh border.
In an editorial published in its mouthpiece Saamana, the party alleged that disclosures about possible Chinese incursions had raised serious questions about transparency and the government’s response to security challenges. The claims and their interpretation were presented by the party; the allegations were not independently established in the material provided.
According to the editorial, Chinese troops had penetrated six to seven kilometres into Indian territory in the Asafila area and established camps. It also referred to alleged clashes over the preceding four months and the growing role of drones in modern warfare, while claiming that a video of Kapoor’s remarks was subsequently removed from an official website.
The editorial accused the BJP-led government of dismissing concerns about Chinese incursions, including warnings attributed to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and accounts shared by residents of border areas. It also raised questions about the reported censorship of former Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane’s unpublished autobiography, Four Stars of Destiny, which reportedly discusses the 2020 Ladakh standoff and the Agnipath scheme.
The party further criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s engagement with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS summit, contrasting diplomatic interactions with what it described as security challenges confronting Indian troops.
The editorial also cited the Pulwama and Pahalgam attacks while demanding greater accountability from the national leadership over security failures.
The claims concerning Chinese troop movements, alleged clashes and the removal of the ITBP chief’s video require independent verification. The material provided does not include a response from the Centre or the ITBP to the allegations raised in the editorial.
