Sultanpur, October 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Several people were injured after vehicles in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s convoy collided on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district on Monday. Gandhi was safe, according to reports.
The accident reportedly occurred near the 91-kilometre milestone in the Haliyapur area, where five vehicles from the convoy and an ambulance were involved in the collision. Party workers, officials and security personnel were among those injured. Details about the total number of injured and the severity of their injuries were not immediately available.
Gandhi was travelling to Sultanpur to appear before a special MP-MLA court in a defamation case linked to alleged remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was the BJP president at the time of the alleged comments.
The case dates back to August 4, 2018, when BJP leader Vijay Mishra, a former chairman of the Sultanpur District Cooperative Bank, filed a complaint over remarks Gandhi allegedly made at a campaign rally in Bengaluru ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections.
The court was scheduled to pronounce its verdict on Monday. Complainant’s counsel Santosh Kumar Pandey said Gandhi was required to appear in person for the judgment.
Additional Civil Judge Shubham Verma had earlier scheduled the verdict for October 13.
Sultanpur Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal had said Gandhi was expected to travel by road from Lucknow and reach Sultanpur at around 10 a.m., according to his itinerary. Police had also made security arrangements around the court premises to maintain law and order during the proceedings.
Further details about the expressway collision and the condition of those injured were awaited.
