Suresh Raina’s Wife Priyanka Urges Parents to Put Phones Away and Stay Present with Their Children

Priyanka Raina, wife of former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, has urged parents to prioritise their children’s safety and avoid distractions from mobile phones when spending time with them, stressing that children learn by observing their parents.

Speaking exclusively to IANS on the sidelines of Parineeti Chopra’s show Mom Talks: Maa Ki Baat Maa Ke Jazbaat, Priyanka discussed the challenges of parenting in an age dominated by social media and screen time.

Asked about people becoming engrossed in social media and neglecting their children, Priyanka said safety must remain the foremost concern and emphasised the importance of being present in children’s everyday lives.

“I think safety is foremost important. There’s nothing more important than that, and being present overall is very much important for parents in day-to-day life,” she said.

She added that parents should avoid using their phones when they are with their children, particularly when safety is a concern, as their behaviour sets an example for young ones.

“So I would say, please stay away. When you’re with your child, leave your phone somewhere far away. Don’t be on the screen. It’s very important to be present,” Priyanka said.

During the conversation, Suresh Raina revealed that Priyanka is very strict with their children and does not allow them much screen time.

The former cricketer also stressed the importance of discussing fatherhood alongside motherhood, saying both parents’ views and their relationship play a vital role in raising children.

“Of course, there should be because I think father is the roof of the house, and I’m sure there are a lot of wives who give respect to the father, and their opinions matter a lot, and I wish that all the parents have discussions with each other,” Raina said.

He described the father as a pillar of the family and emphasised that mutual respect and understanding between spouses are essential.

“When we talk about parents, the bonding between the two is very important,” he added.
