Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are among Bollywood’s most popular couples. However, before Ranbir settled down with Alia, his mother and veteran actress Neetu Kapoor had shared her thoughts on the kind of woman she hoped her son would marry.
During an appearance on veteran actress Simi Garewal’s show Simi Selects India’s Most Desirable, Neetu explained that she wanted a partner who would bring the family together rather than create divisions.
In a video message for Ranbir on the show, Neetu used the analogy of a needle and scissors to describe the two kinds of women.
“There are two kinds of girls, one who comes with scissors, and one who comes with a needle. Scissors is the one who breaks the family, or jo needle ke sath aati hai that kind off mends the family together, makes sure the family stays together. And that’s the girl I would like,” she said.
Ranbir eventually married actress Alia Bhatt on April 14, 2022, after dating for some time. The couple welcomed their daughter, Raha, on November 6, 2022.
In a later appearance on Koffee With Karan, Neetu was asked by filmmaker and host Karan Johar what relationship advice she would give Ranbir and Alia based on her own marriage to late actor Rishi Kapoor.
When Karan asked what aspect of her marriage she wanted the younger couple to adopt, Neetu replied that she did not expect them to follow the same path as her generation.
“Nothing. Because in today’s day and age, do what you want to do. Just be happy. And also, every generation is different. What I went through, I can’t expect them to do the same thing, so they know their own vibe,” she said.
Neetu and Rishi Kapoor married in a traditional ceremony in 1980. They have two children: daughter Riddhima and son Ranbir.
Rishi Kapoor passed away in April 2020 following a two-year-long battle with leukaemia. His legacy continues through his family and his memorable contribution to Indian cinema.
