Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled two alleged illegal arms supply networks with the arrest of four individuals, including two juveniles, and recovered 16 pistols and seven live cartridges, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.
The action was carried out as part of the Punjab government’s ongoing drive to strengthen law and order under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Those arrested have been identified as Anmol Singh alias Mohla, 19, a resident of Naushehra Dhalla village in Tarn Taran district; Hardeep Singh alias Shiv, 18, a resident of Chella village in Tarn Taran; and two juveniles.
The recovered weapons include three 9mm Glock pistols, one .30-bore pistol made in China, one .30-bore X-Shot pistol, one .30-bore PX-5 Storm pistol, nine other .30-bore pistols and one country-made .32-bore pistol. Police have also impounded a Honda Activa scooter allegedly used in connection with the activities.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicated that the accused were allegedly in contact with a foreign-based handler who facilitated illegal arms consignments. The weapons were reportedly being distributed further to criminal elements through an organised supply network.
He said further investigation was underway to identify the wider network and establish its backward and forward linkages.
Sharing details of the operations, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Harmanbir Singh Gill said the first action followed specific intelligence inputs about the movement of illegal weapons. Police teams intercepted a juvenile riding a Honda Activa scooter within the jurisdiction of Cantonment police station and allegedly recovered six pistols and seven live cartridges from his possession.
In the second operation, police teams from Gate Hakima police station apprehended Anmol Singh alias Mohla along with a juvenile associate and recovered five .30-bore pistols, Gill said.
During subsequent investigation and based on disclosures made by the two accused, police arrested another alleged accomplice, Hardeep Singh alias Shiv, and recovered five additional pistols. This took the total recovery in the second operation to 10 pistols.
Two separate cases have been registered in connection with the recoveries. The first, FIR No. 196 dated October 17, 2026, was registered under Section 25(8) of the Arms Act at Cantonment police station. The second, FIR No. 315 dated October 21, 2026, was registered under Sections 25(6), 25(7) and 25(8) of the Arms Act at Gate Hakima police station.
Police said the investigation was continuing to trace the source of the weapons, identify other people involved and establish the full extent of the alleged supply networks.
