Jammu, October 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Monday after villagers reported suspicious movement near the border, officials said.
A joint team comprising the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched the operation in the Karnadi area to verify the reports and strengthen security.
Officials said the search covered forest and riverine areas after villagers reported spotting suspicious men near the border. Similar alerts about possible movement were reported near Ujjah Nallah in the Kote Panu and Pundori hamlet areas.
Security forces have stepped up surveillance and search operations along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir following previous reports of suspicious movement, drone sightings and possible infiltration attempts.
During the current month, security alerts and counter-infiltration measures were also reported following suspected Pakistani drone sightings and possible cross-border movement along the LoC in Poonch district.
On August 20, a multi-agency search operation was conducted in the forest areas of Billawar in Kathua, near the district boundary with Udhampur, after reports of suspicious individuals.
In another incident, personnel of the Border Security Force’s 44th Battalion apprehended a suspected Pakistani intruder near the International Border in the Kanachak area of Jammu district on September 3.
Earlier in 2026, security forces tracked suspected drone intrusions and intercepted suspicious satellite phone signals, including those associated with Thuraya devices, in parts of Samba, Rajouri and Poonch. These alerts led to security operations, including controlled firing and searches linked to suspected weapons and narcotics recoveries.
The latest operation in Kathua is aimed at verifying the villagers’ reports and ensuring that no security threat remains in the area. Officials have not reported any arrests or recoveries in connection with Monday’s search so far.
