Two pedestrians were killed after being struck by an SUV in the coastal town of Tura Beach in Australia’s New South Wales state, police said.
The two men, aged 70 and 55, were walking along a roadway at around 9:30 p.m. local time on Sunday when they were hit by the vehicle, according to police.
Both pedestrians died at the scene.
The SUV was being driven by a 45-year-old woman, who was not injured in the crash. She was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Police established a crime scene at the location and said specialist investigators were expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
The incident occurred around 350 km south of Sydney.
In a separate road accident in South Australia on Sunday night, a 53-year-old man was killed and six others were hospitalised after two vehicles collided in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
Emergency services were called to the crash involving an SUV and a sedan at around 8:45 p.m. The sedan driver died at the scene.
The SUV was carrying six people — a 38-year-old female driver, a 35-year-old female passenger and four children. All six were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
South Australia’s major crash unit has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
The latest fatality took the number of deaths on South Australian roads so far in 2026 to 84. The state recorded 87 road deaths during all of 2025 and 89 in 2024.
