Purnia, August 12, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A relationship that began on Instagram and continued for nearly a year ended in tragedy in Bihar’s Purnia district after a 19-year-old woman died just hours after marrying her boyfriend at Purnia Junction railway station.
The deceased was identified as Manisha Kumari, daughter of Naresh Yadav and a resident of Butterbari in Araria district. She was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree.
According to police, Manisha had been in a relationship with a young man from the Palasi police station area of Araria, who is reportedly an intermediate student. The two had first connected on Instagram around a year ago, and their online conversations gradually developed into a close friendship and later a romantic relationship.
The situation took a turn after Manisha’s family arranged her marriage to another person. Unwilling to accept the arrangement, she left home with her boyfriend, and the two travelled from Araria to Purnia, intending to begin a life together.
After reaching Purnia, the young man reportedly married Manisha by applying sindoor at Purnia Junction. The couple then spent the night at the railway station.
On Monday evening, they left Rambagh on foot to visit the City Kali Temple. During the journey, Manisha suddenly complained of dizziness and became unwell. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, following which her husband and local residents rushed her to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Purnia.
Despite medical efforts, Manisha died during treatment.
Police from the GMCH Town Outpost reached the hospital after being informed about the death, took custody of the body and initiated legal proceedings. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have informed Manisha’s family and are questioning her husband as part of the investigation. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the couple’s marriage and the events preceding her sudden death.
The incident has left both families shocked, while investigators are awaiting the post-mortem report for further clarity.
