Patiala, October 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Mining Department in Patiala district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

The accused, identified as Hardeep Singh, is posted as SDO in the Mining Department at Nabha.

According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed by a contractor from Alipur Araian village in Patiala district.

The complainant alleged that Hardeep Singh had threatened to issue challans against his overloaded tipper vehicles and demanded Rs 50,000 in exchange for not taking action against them.

Unwilling to pay the alleged bribe, the complainant approached the VB Range Patiala and reported the matter.

Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap. Hardeep Singh was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Patiala.

The Vigilance Bureau said further investigation into the case is underway.
