Television sports presenter Shefali Bagga has clarified her alleged involvement in the Mahadev betting app case, saying her role was limited to promoting certain brands on social media and that she was unaware of their alleged links to the betting platform.
Bagga said she has cooperated with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) during its investigation and surrendered the money she received for the promotional engagements.
“My role was limited to unknowingly promoting a few brands on social media similar to the promotional engagements undertaken by many public figures and celebrities. Beyond this, I had no involvement or association with any other activities or operations relating to those brands or any other entity,” Bagga told IANS.
She added that she had cooperated with the investigation, surrendered the money and had “full faith” in the law.
According to the latest ED chargesheet, Bagga surrendered Rs 1.20 crore, which the agency has described as the balance amount she allegedly received for promoting betting apps associated with the Mahadev platform.
The chargesheet reportedly states that Bagga received around Rs 1.5 crore for making promotional videos for the Mahadev betting app syndicate. During a search at her residence in Delhi, ED officials also seized Rs 30 lakh in cash, according to the agency.
The Mahadev Book, also referred to as the Mahadev Betting App, is under investigation in connection with an alleged illegal online betting network involving sports such as cricket and football.
The ED has been investigating the wider network and has previously reported seizures of properties and arrests of individuals allegedly connected with the case.
The agency’s investigation into the alleged nationwide betting network is continuing.
