A jatha of 49 Sikh pilgrims from Pakistan arrived in India on Thursday to pay obeisance at Sikh gurdwaras and historic religious shrines.
The pilgrims were warmly welcomed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon and the committee’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Paramjit Singh Chandhok.
DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka, General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon and Foreign Affairs Adviser Paramjit Singh Chandhok expressed happiness over the arrival of the pilgrims and said the committee had made arrangements for their stay and pilgrimage.
They said the visiting group also includes relatives of Sikh families living in India. Some members of the group have met their relatives after more than a decade, allowing them to reconnect and experience the warmth of family ties.
The committee representatives said the pilgrims were happy to have reached India and would visit various gurdwaras in Delhi as part of their pilgrimage.
The jatha is also scheduled to visit Sri Darbar Sahib in Amritsar, allowing the pilgrims to pay obeisance at one of Sikhism’s most revered shrines.
Kalka, Kahlon and Chandhok said the approval granted to the group to undertake the pilgrimage was a welcome development and expressed hope that more Sikh jathas from Pakistan would be permitted to visit Sikh shrines in India in the future.
The DSGMC leaders assured the pilgrims that the committee would provide all necessary facilities and support during their stay and visits to the gurdwaras.
