Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday reiterated her government’s commitment to women’s empowerment after receiving a warm welcome from women at the Delhi Assembly following the rollout of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.
Addressing women beneficiaries, Gupta said she was pleased to see their enthusiasm and satisfaction as the government fulfilled a key electoral promise.
“Today, I am happy for the women of Delhi, whose happiness knows no bounds. I am glad that we have been able to fulfil the promise that the Delhi government made to the women of Delhi. I promise every woman that for their empowerment and security, this Chief Minister and our government will always stand with them,” she said.
Delhi Minister Ashish Sood also spoke about the scheme, drawing a comparison between the governance models of different political parties.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, eligible women in Delhi had begun receiving the benefits of the scheme within a year of the government’s tenure. He also criticised rival parties, alleging that they had spoken about women’s empowerment primarily for electoral gains.
On Thursday, Gupta visited a Delhi Lakshmi Yojana registration camp in Shalimar Bagh, where she interacted with beneficiaries, reviewed the registration process and assisted women in completing application formalities. She also signed several application forms during the visit.
The camps have received an encouraging response, with many women expressing confidence that the government’s election promises are being implemented.
The Delhi government said it is committed to ensuring that every eligible woman is able to register and receive the benefits of the scheme through an accessible and streamlined process.
Launched on August 1, the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana has already recorded nearly four lakh registrations.
Under the scheme, eligible women in the national capital are entitled to Rs 2,500 per month as financial assistance, with the government describing the initiative as a step towards enhancing women’s financial independence and economic security.
