Punjab Police conducted 607 raids across the state on Thursday as part of the ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign against gangster networks, arresting 307 individuals and recovering seven weapons.
The campaign, launched by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, aims to make Punjab a gangster-free state. Police teams from all districts, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), have been carrying out targeted operations at identified and mapped locations linked to gangster associates.
With Thursday’s arrests, the total number of people arrested under the campaign has risen to 69,442. Police teams also took preventive action against 245 individuals and arrested 15 Proclaimed Offenders (POs) during the day.
The Punjab Police has urged citizens to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946. Information can be provided anonymously.
Meanwhile, the police continued its anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, with 87 alleged drug smugglers arrested during the day. The police recovered 1.4 kg of heroin, 36,600 intoxicant pills and Rs. 1,900 in drug money from their possession.
According to the police, the cumulative number of drug smugglers arrested has reached 77,646 since the campaign began. As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded six individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
