Singer Rhiti Tiwari has opened up about the intense scrutiny she faces as the daughter of Bhojpuri superstar and politician Manoj Tiwari, revealing that she has received death and rape threats because of her family identity.
In an episode of Bigg Boss 20, Rhiti spoke about the pressure of carrying her father’s surname and said she has “always been under double pressure” because her statements are often interpreted as reflecting his views.
“Whatever I say, it becomes ‘Manoj Tiwari’s daughter said it’, and because of that I get death threats, rape threats because I am his daughter. My opinion becomes his opinion in the eyes of people,” she said.
Rhiti’s comments come as she follows her father into the Bigg Boss house. Manoj Tiwari had participated in Bigg Boss 4 in 2010, a season that also featured his much-discussed clashes with fellow contestant Dolly Bindra.
Before entering Bigg Boss 20, Rhiti had recalled watching her father on the reality show as a child. She said she would wait for every episode and miss him while he was inside the house, while also finding it exciting to see him in a completely different environment.
She has described her own participation as a surreal reversal of roles, with her now inside the Bigg Boss house and her father watching from outside.
Manoj Tiwari began his career as a singer and went on to become one of the biggest stars of Bhojpuri cinema. His acting breakthrough came with Sasura Bada Paise Wala, followed by films including Daroga Babu I Love You, Bandhan Tute Na, Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke, Damad Ji, Ganga, Bhole Shankar and Devra Bhail Deewana.
He later appeared on television programmes such as Welcome – Baazi Mehmaan Nawazi Ki and hosted and participated in music-based reality shows including Sur Sangram, Bharat Ki Shaan and Chak De Bachche.
