Actress Saiyami Kher is set to make her international debut with an upcoming Indo-Russian drama directed by Maksim Kuznetsov, describing the experience of working across cultures and language barriers as an opportunity to discover new approaches to filmmaking.
The film, produced by Kartina Entertainment, White Night Films and Wish Media, brings together Indian and Russian talent for a drama-driven story. While the makers have kept the plot and title under wraps, Saiyami has revealed that the film features a strong female lead.
“This was a completely different and new experience for me, working with an entirely foreign crew. We shot in Russia, and it was my first time there,” the actress said in a statement.
Recalling her time in Moscow, Saiyami described the city as beautiful and the overall filming experience as incredible. She said the working environment differed from what she was accustomed to but that she thoroughly enjoyed being part of the collaboration.
“It’s so much fun to work across borders and language barriers. Working across cultures gives you a different perspective on storytelling and allows you to learn from people who approach cinema in their own unique ways,” she said.
The actress expressed hope that the project would be the first of several international ventures in her career.
Saiyami has worked across films and streaming projects in India, building a body of work that includes Mirzya, Choked, Breathe: Into the Shadows and Ghoomer.
She was most recently seen in Priyadarshan’s crime thriller Haiwaan, which stars Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Boman Irani and Shriya Pilgaonkar, with Mohanlal making a cameo appearance. The film brought Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan together again after their earlier collaboration in Tashan.
