Chandigarh, October 27, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday urged the Centre to reopen the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor and ensure regular, hassle-free access for Sikh devotees to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan. Emphasising that matters of faith must remain above political considerations, he said the spiritual aspirations of devotees should be respected and religious devotion must not become a casualty of petty politics.

The Punjab Vidhan Sabha also passed a resolution urging the Union government to reopen and regularise the corridor so that the Sikh Sangat can undertake darshan without hindrance.

Addressing the House, Mann said religious faith should not be subjected to narrow political considerations.

“The spiritual aspirations of the people must be respected. There should be no room for petty politics when it comes to religious devotion. The Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor should be reopened so that devotees can fulfil their spiritual aspirations without hindrance,” he said.

The resolution, moved by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, invoked Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message of Sarbat da Bhala and described the corridor as a symbol of religious freedom and human kinship for the Sikh community worldwide, rather than merely a diplomatic route between India and Pakistan.

It called on the Centre to take immediate steps to reopen the corridor and ensure its regular operation. The resolution also urged the Union government to simplify the procedures for visits and engage with the Pakistan government to facilitate safe, hassle-free and uninterrupted movement of devotees to Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan.

The resolution noted that restrictions and interruptions in movement through the corridor hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs across the world and deprived devotees of the opportunity to pay obeisance at the historic shrine.

It further called for simplified procedures, particularly for elderly and infirm devotees, to enable more members of the Sikh Sangat to visit the holy site.

Bains said the corridor held deep spiritual significance for Sikhs and was closely linked to the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

“Sri Kartarpur Sahib is the cradle of the principles of Kirat Karo, Naam Japo te Vand Chhako. The corridor is not just a passage, it is a bridge that reconnects the Sikh Sangat with the soil where our Guru Sahib walked,” he said.

The Punjab government reiterated its appeal for the corridor’s reopening, stressing the importance of enabling devotees to fulfil their religious aspirations without unnecessary obstacles.
