The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday unanimously passed eight resolutions on the final day of its 13th session, covering Punjab’s water rights, irrigation infrastructure, public welfare schemes, higher education and the reopening of the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.

The resolutions included authorising the Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to nominate two members of the House to the Senate of Panjab University, Chandigarh, taking into account the proportional strength of different political parties in the Assembly.

On water-related issues, the House passed resolutions seeking Punjab’s legitimate and equitable share in Yamuna waters, retention of the administration, maintenance and operation of the irrigation headworks at Ropar, Harike and Ferozepur under Punjab’s control, and rejection of the Dam Safety Act, 2021.

The Assembly also passed a resolution concerning the cost or royalty for river waters from the Sutlej, Ravi and Beas supplied to Rajasthan.

Another resolution urged the Union Government to execute the Ujh Multipurpose Project and divert its waters to the Ranjit Sagar Dam to prevent the Ravi’s waters from flowing into Pakistan downstream of Madhopur Headworks.

The remaining resolutions focused on the continuation of public welfare schemes initiated by the Punjab Government and a request to the Union Government to reopen the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema moved the resolution appreciating the state government’s public welfare schemes. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains tabled the resolution seeking the reopening of the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, while Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal moved the resolutions concerning river waters.

The unanimous passage of all eight resolutions marked the conclusion of the Assembly’s 13th session, with the House addressing issues related to the state’s interests, water resources, public welfare and religious connectivity.
