Punjab Police have busted four alleged illegal arms and narcotics supply networks in Amritsar district, arresting seven people, including an Army soldier, and recovering 14 sophisticated pistols and 20.130 kg of heroin, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made by Amritsar Rural Police as part of the state government’s ongoing drive to strengthen law and order and curb the supply of illegal weapons and narcotics.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Uday, 19, and Patras, 19, both residents of Mastgarh in Tarn Taran district; Army soldier Yudhvir Singh, 22, a resident of Ranike village; Sajan Singh, 19, and Sahilpreet, 20, both residents of Naraingarh; Jarmanjot Singh, 20, of Sialka village; and Sahibnoor Singh, 21, of Jujhar Singh Nagar in Batala.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicated that the accused were allegedly in contact with a foreign-based handler who facilitated illegal arms consignments for distribution among criminal elements through an organised network.
Further investigation is underway to identify the entire network and establish its backward and forward linkages, he said.
Sharing details of the operations, Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that in the first operation, teams from Gharinda police station intercepted Uday and Patras while they were travelling towards Khemkaran after allegedly retrieving a consignment dropped by a drone.
The police recovered 10 pistols from them, including one 9mm pistol and nine .30-bore pistols. Preliminary investigation suggested that the duo had previously retrieved and supplied at least 20 to 25 consignments of weapons, Bhullar said.
In the second operation, a joint team of the Amritsar Rural Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and the Station House Officer of Gharinda apprehended Army soldier Yudhvir Singh, who had come home on leave. One .30-bore pistol was recovered from his possession.
Bhullar said Yudhvir Singh had also been arrested in connection with an Arms Act case. A detailed report regarding his alleged involvement in cross-border smuggling was being sent to senior Army authorities, he added.
In the third operation, teams from Gharinda police station intercepted Sajan Singh and Sahilpreet following what police described as reliable information. They recovered 20.130 kg of heroin from the two accused, Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural) Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said.
During the fourth operation, a joint team led by the in-charge of the Amritsar Rural Special Cell and the Station House Officer of Kathu Nangal arrested Jarmanjot Singh and Sahibnoor Singh. Two pistols were recovered from them, the SSP said.
Police have registered four separate cases in connection with the seizures and arrests. FIR Nos. 458 and 459, dated October 26, 2026, were registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Gharinda police station. FIR No. 460, dated October 27, 2026, was registered under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the same police station.
Another case, FIR No. 191, dated October 23, 2026, was registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Kathu Nangal police station.
Police said the investigation would continue to determine the extent of the alleged smuggling network and identify other individuals who may have been involved.
