Indian American Republican Vivek Ramaswamy has received 47 per cent support against Democrat Amy Acton’s 45 per cent in a new poll of Ohio’s governor’s race, as US President Donald Trump prepares to campaign for him ahead of the November 3 election.

The survey, conducted by Echelon Insights for technology industry trade group NetChoice, also put Libertarian candidate Don Kissick at 4 per cent. It polled 508 likely voters between October 16 and 23 and has a margin of error of 5.2 percentage points, placing the candidates effectively within a statistical tie.

The survey also found 70 per cent support for State Issue 3, a proposed constitutional amendment requiring photo identification to vote, while 28 per cent opposed it. Inflation and the cost of living emerged as the leading concerns for respondents at 57 per cent, followed by foreign policy at 24 per cent and healthcare costs at 21 per cent.

A separate poll sponsored by the super PAC A Fight Worth Having and conducted by RedBox Research showed Acton at 48.2 per cent and Ramaswamy at 43.8 per cent. The survey covered 2,998 likely voters from October 20 to 23 and reported a margin of error of 4.6 percentage points.

Trump is scheduled to hold a campaign rally at the Shoemaker Center on the Ohio University Chillicothe campus on Wednesday. It will be his third campaign event in Ohio this month in support of Ramaswamy and Republican Senate candidate Jon Husted.

Acton and Democratic Senatorial candidate Sherrod Brown are scheduled to hold a rally in Cincinnati at 5:30 pm the same day. The separate poll showed Brown leading Husted by 46.9 per cent to 44.2 per cent.

Ramaswamy has been travelling across Ohio during the final week of campaigning, with stops in several counties. Both campaigns have also addressed data centre development, according to reports on the race.

A biotech entrepreneur and the son of immigrants from Kerala, Ramaswamy ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 before endorsing Trump. If elected, he would become Ohio’s first Indian American governor.
