Four masked men allegedly looted gold and silver jewellery worth approximately ₹3 crore from Kanchan Jewellers in broad daylight on Tuesday, holding the showroom owner and staff at gunpoint in Kochas town of Bihar’s Rohtas district.
The robbery took place around 2 pm at the showroom near Mahatma Gandhi Chowk on the Sasaram–Chausa road, barely 500 metres from the local police station.
According to shop owner Avinash Kumar Verma, the four suspects arrived on Apache motorcycles, entered the showroom and threatened those present with firearms before collecting jewellery and escaping. They also allegedly removed the digital video recorder (DVR) connected to the shop’s CCTV system.
Police teams reached the scene after the incident. Rohtas Superintendent of Police Mr Raj visited the showroom to assess the situation and oversee the investigation. Sadar SDPO-2 Sanjeev Kumar and Kochas Station House Officer Pramod Kumar also arrived and questioned the owner.
Investigators are examining footage from CCTV cameras installed outside the showroom and at nearby locations to identify the suspects. Police in neighbouring areas have also been alerted as efforts continue to trace the alleged robbers.
The incident has heightened concern among local traders because the showroom is situated in a busy market area close to the police station.
Kanchan Jewellers was also targeted in a major theft in August 2025. Unidentified thieves allegedly cut through its shutter on the night of August 25 and stole jewellery worth approximately ₹5.20 crore. Three suspects were subsequently arrested in connection with that case.
The latest incident has renewed concerns about security at the establishment and the prevention of repeat offences. Police have yet to officially confirm the exact value of the jewellery stolen on Tuesday or identify those responsible.
