Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Saturday interacted with women medical students and resident doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, discussing their safety concerns and assuring them of support to help create a secure environment for future doctors.
In a message on social media platform X, Sandhu said he had a candid interaction over coffee with medical students and resident doctors at a popular cafe on the AIIMS campus. He said he heard about the challenges of medical education, their aspirations for India’s healthcare sector and concerns around safety and security, particularly those faced by women.
Sandhu said their inputs were important and assured them of full cooperation in addressing their concerns and strengthening a safe environment for all.
“To our future doctors – Serve with knowledge. Lead with empathy. Build a healthier #ViksitDilli and #ViksitBharat,” he wrote.
The interaction followed a Heritage Walk at Sanjay Van on Friday, where the Lieutenant Governor also engaged with citizens and highlighted that women’s safety is a shared responsibility.
Sandhu said a safer Delhi requires zero tolerance for harassment, secure public spaces, digital safety and active bystander support. He expressed confidence that the energy of young people could help build a city where women feel safe and have equal opportunities to participate and lead.
His interactions come alongside directions to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which he chairs, to strengthen security across its more than 500 parks.
According to an official statement, the DDA has begun augmenting CCTV networks in 323 parks, improving lighting near dark spots in 520 parks and implementing a security standard operating procedure following audits of 736 parks.
The authority has also initiated structured consultations with local resident welfare associations to identify park-specific safety concerns and assign corrective measures. A Central Master Tracker and Monitoring Dashboard has been established to support the initiative, alongside weekly inspections by senior officers.
