The West Indies have added wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo to their squad for the upcoming T20I series against India as cover for Jewel Andrew, who suffered a finger injury during the third ODI of the ongoing tour.
Cricket West Indies said Andrew remains under assessment by the team’s medical staff after sustaining the injury while completing a catch during India’s innings at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Andrew was injured on the final delivery of the 36th over when India batter Naman Dhir chipped a delivery from left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie towards cover. Andrew completed the catch but took a heavy blow to his finger and subsequently left the field for medical attention. He was taken to hospital for an X-ray.
The injury also ruled Andrew out of opening the West Indies innings during their chase of 352. John Campbell moved to the top of the order, with captain Shai Hope replacing Andrew.
Jangoo, 29, has represented the West Indies in seven T20Is since making his international debut in December 2024. He has scored 163 runs in the format at a strike rate of 120.74.
The wicketkeeper-batter, however, enters the T20I squad on the back of an impressive ODI series against India. He scored an unbeaten 58, 114 and 67 in the three matches, finishing with 239 runs and third on the overall run-scoring charts. Only India’s Shubman Gill, with 334 runs, and Hope, with 278, have scored more in the series.
The first T20I between India and West Indies is scheduled to be played in Lucknow on Tuesday.
