National Award-winning actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty is set to collaborate with Malayalam filmmaker Chidambaram, best known for directing the blockbuster Manjummel Boys, on two films.
The first project to take shape will be a Kannada sports drama, which is currently in the pre-production stage and is expected to begin filming next year, according to sources.
The sports drama will be produced by Malayalam filmmaker Shibu Thameens. Details about its storyline and the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be revealed.
The collaboration brings together two filmmakers known for rooted storytelling and distinctive approaches to exploring human emotions. Chidambaram has earned recognition for unconventional narratives, while Rishab has built a reputation for combining regional culture and lived traditions with mainstream storytelling.
The sports drama will also mark a new creative space for Rishab, who continues to explore different genres as both an actor and filmmaker.
Rishab’s upcoming projects include Jai Hanuman, while his work on the Kantara franchise, including his National Award-winning performance, has further strengthened his position as one of the prominent creative voices in Indian cinema.
Earlier, Rishab reflected on his journey with Kantara: Chapter 1 in a social media post marking the film’s first anniversary. The actor-filmmaker has frequently drawn on local traditions and cultural influences in his work.
The second film in his collaboration with Chidambaram is yet to be detailed.
Sources close to the project said further announcements regarding the sports drama’s storyline, cast and crew are expected in the coming days.
