Esha Singh salvaged a medal for India by winning silver in the women’s 25m pistol individual event at the Asian Games 2026, after the Indian team finished fifth in the team competition earlier on Monday.
India’s team of Esha, double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker and Asian Games silver medallist Rahi Sarnobat finished with a combined score of 1727-56x. China won gold with 1743-68x, South Korea took silver with 1735-65x and Chinese Taipei secured bronze with 1734-48x.
Esha had entered the individual final after finishing eighth in qualification with 580 points and 22 bullseyes, edging Chinese Taipei’s Yen-Ching Cheng, who also scored 580 but had 20x. Manu finished 11th with 579-18x, while Rahi was 30th with 568-16x.
In the final, Esha battled through multiple shoot-offs before finishing with 38 hits, level with China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan. Xiao prevailed in the deciding shoot-off, leaving Esha with the silver medal.
The team event had initially appeared promising for India after the precision stage, when the side was just one point behind China. However, Rahi struggled in the opening rapid series, while Esha and Manu posted strong scores. Rahi recovered with better subsequent series, but the early setback proved costly.
For Manu, the Games ended without a medal. She had earlier reached the 10m air pistol final but finished fifth, while India also missed the medal in the 10m air pistol team event.
Esha’s silver adds another major medal to her growing international record. The 21-year-old is the reigning world-record holder in the women’s 25m pistol event, having shot 43 hits at the ISSF World Cup in Munich earlier this year.
