Students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) have won two Silver Medals and a Medal for Excellence for India at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China.
The global competition, held from September 23 to 26, featured more than 1,400 young competitors from around 68 countries and regions across 64 skill categories.
India fielded its largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors across 63 skills and finished 10th overall, winning six Silver Medals and 20 Medals for Excellence.
NIFT represented India in four skill categories — Fashion Technology, Retail Sales, Visual Merchandising and Digital Interactive Media Design.
In Fashion Technology, Vidhi Niravkumar Suthar, a Fashion Design graduate from NIFT Gandhinagar, won a Medal for Excellence. NIFT has been participating in the category since 2011.
Vidhi underwent a four-month intensive training programme at NIFT New Delhi under Prof. (Dr.) Monika Gupta, the Indian expert for the skill. The training focused on technical precision, international standards and performance under the demanding conditions of the WorldSkills competition.
NIFT students also secured medals in emerging skill areas. Kovid Ajay Gangrade of NIFT Mumbai won a Silver Medal in Digital Interactive Media Design, while Saniya Joshi of NIFT Panchkula won a Silver Medal in Retail Sales.
Their performances highlighted the growing intersection of fashion with technology, digital platforms, retail and customer experience in the creative economy.
NIFT Bengaluru’s Anuja Ajay Vare represented India in Visual Merchandising, completing the institute’s participation across all four skill categories.
According to NIFT, participation in WorldSkills gives students exposure to global occupational standards, emerging technologies and industry practices. The experience also helps the institute strengthen its training programmes by incorporating international benchmarks into academic and skill-development initiatives.
