India’s Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru advanced to the men’s compound individual quarterfinals at the Asian Games after edging compatriot Sahil Jadhav in the Round of 16 at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square on Monday.
Ganesh won the all-Indian contest 149-148 despite Jadhav having recorded the highest qualification score among India’s compound men. Ganesh will next face Chinese Taipei’s Chieh-lun Chen in the quarterfinals.
Ganesh had opened his individual campaign with a 144-142 victory over Indonesia’s Sostar Andaru Rinaldi. Jadhav, meanwhile, defeated Mongolia’s Jamiyangombo Purevdorj 149-137 in the Round of 32.
India have also progressed to the semifinals in the compound men’s and women’s team events.
The women’s team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated Kazakhstan’s Roxana Yunussova, Viktoriya Lyan and Adel Zhexenbinova 233-230 in the quarterfinals.
The men’s trio of Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav and Ganesh Mani Ratnam beat Bhutan’s Kezang Norbu, Tshetum Gaytshey and Tandin Dorji 235-232 to book their semifinal place.
Both Indian teams will face South Korea in their respective semifinals on September 30.
India have also reached the semifinals of the compound mixed team event. Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav defeated Mongolia 160-146 in the Round of 16 before overcoming Kazakhstan 159-154 in the quarterfinals.
The compound mixed team event has added significance with the discipline set to make its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028. An Olympic quota place is also available through the Asian Games competition.
The men’s individual compound quarterfinals are scheduled for Thursday, while the men’s and women’s team semifinals against South Korea will be held on September 30.
