Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian, on Saturday served a Rs 500-crore defamation notice on Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray outside his Matoshree residence in Mumbai, objecting to remarks allegedly portraying his pursuit of a fresh probe into his daughter’s death as politically motivated.
Satish Salian and his lawyer Nilesh Ojha were not allowed to enter the residence, following which the notice was accepted by Thackeray’s advocate outside the building.
Speaking to reporters after serving the notice, Ojha said the move was intended to demonstrate that they could serve the legal notice at Thackeray’s residence despite what he claimed were threats against them.
“We have nothing to do with any politics. Now that the notice has been served, answer it,” Ojha said.
The notice relates to alleged defamatory posts published by Aaditya Thackeray on his official X account on September 16 in English and Marathi. It alleges that Thackeray made statements concerning Satish Salian’s motives and personal enmity in relation to the legal proceedings and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Disha Salian’s death.
The notice seeks Rs 500 crore in compensation and damages.
Earlier on Saturday, Satish Salian said he was not afraid of “any Shiv Sainik”.
“They are human beings and I am human too. I am from Mumbai, so I have no reason to fear anyone,” he said.
Ojha had earlier said that Satish Salian had written to the CBI seeking immediate police protection for himself, Ojha, former Narcotics Control Bureau Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede and Ashutosh Pathak.
Ojha also made several allegations concerning Aaditya Thackeray and the Disha Salian case, including claims related to a purported NCB report, CCTV footage and other evidence. These claims were made by Ojha and have not been independently established in the source material.
Aaditya Thackeray has denied ever meeting or knowing Disha Salian and has described attempts to link him to the case as politically motivated and lacking evidence.
The development comes amid the ongoing CBI investigation into Disha Salian’s death following directions from the Bombay High Court. The court has also made clear that individuals should not be treated as accused unless sufficient material emerges during the investigation.
