National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Saturday said India is entering a transformative phase and projected that the country’s GDP could rise from the current $4.015 trillion to $38 trillion over the next 20 years.
Addressing the convocation ceremony at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee as chief guest, Doval told graduating students that they were entering their professional lives at a time of significant change and opportunity.
“Massive changes are taking place in India and the country is moving towards a magnificent future,” Doval said.
Referring to the period leading up to 2047, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described as ‘Amrit Kaal’, the NSA said the coming decades would offer substantial opportunities for growth and innovation.
Doval also urged students to demonstrate courage and conviction in their personal and professional lives. Citing the example of Lord Ram, he said sage Vishwamitra chose him to confront evil because of his courage and strength of character.
Recalling an experience from his early career while posted in Sikkim, Doval shared three principles for success that he said he learned from a Sherpa.
He explained that the first was to understand where one currently stands, the second was to clearly identify where one wants to go, and the third was to determine the route needed to reach the destination and return successfully.
Doval’s remarks come against the backdrop of India recording 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the April-June quarter of 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the growth as reflecting the country’s economic strength and resilience amid global uncertainties, oil price shocks and supply-chain disruptions.
