Munger, September 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

More than three dozen students of Munger Engineering College fell ill after developing symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and weakness, triggering concern at the college hostel late on Friday evening.

The affected students were taken to Sadar Hospital in ambulances arranged by the college administration. Most of them received first aid and medical treatment before being discharged and returning to the hostel. An assistant professor and some college staff members were also reportedly unwell.

Food poisoning is suspected as a possible cause, but authorities have not yet established the exact reason for the illness.

The incident came after prasad prepared at the college for Vishwakarma Puja was served on Thursday. Students, professors and other staff members consumed the offering. Some students reportedly began experiencing symptoms on Thursday, while a larger number complained of vomiting and diarrhoea late on Friday. Several also reported fever and weakness.

After learning that multiple hostel residents had developed similar symptoms around the same time, the college administration arranged medical assistance and shifted the affected students to Sadar Hospital.

Acting Principal Dr Shambhu Shankar visited the hostel along with college staff to assess the situation. At the hospital, Dr Faizuddin treated the students and said more than three dozen had received medical attention for diarrhoea, fever and weakness.

Their conditions improved after treatment and first aid, following which they were discharged and returned to the college hostel.

Dr Shambhu Shankar said it was too early to conclude that food poisoning was responsible for the illness. He noted that the prasad had been consumed by students as well as professors and other staff members and said the matter would be examined thoroughly.

The college has decided to conduct a high-level inquiry to determine the cause of the illness. Dr Shankar said appropriate action would be taken if any negligence is found during the investigation.
