Chennai, September 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Actor Vijay Sethupathi has praised Superstar Rajinikanth’s dedication to his craft, saying he hopes to maintain the same level of commitment to his work throughout his career.

Sethupathi, who plays the lead in director Balaji Tharaneetharan’s upcoming Tamil film ‘Baththa’, shared his admiration for Rajinikanth while speaking at the film’s audio launch held at Sathyabama Engineering College in Chennai.

“The one person who I’ve looked up to with fascination and have been totally in awe of is Superstar Rajinikanth,” Sethupathi said.

Recalling his experience of working with Rajinikanth in ‘Jailer 2’, Sethupathi said he witnessed the veteran actor rehearse a seemingly simple scene several times despite his vast experience.

“I had recently acted in a scene in ‘Jailer 2’. I had gone to the sets. It was just a small shot. He (Rajinikanth) and I were supposed to talk about something,” Sethupathi recalled.

He said director Nelson brought betel nuts, leaves and cloves for Rajinikanth and suggested that he use them if required. According to Sethupathi, Rajinikanth began chewing the ingredients and folding the betel leaf while rehearsing the scene.

Sethupathi said he realised that Rajinikanth was timing his dialogue delivery with the time he took to fold the betel leaf and repeated the process five or six times.

“If there is one thing that I wholeheartedly long and wish for, it is that till the time I die, if I am an actor, I have to be like that. I wish to be as dedicated in my work as he is,” he said.

The makers of ‘Baththa’ recently released a glimpse titled ‘The World of Baththa’, offering a look at the film’s setting and its central character.

Set in the 1980s, the glimpse introduces Baththa as a feared and aggressive character whose return is eagerly awaited by those close to him. It also features references to an anticipated crime and police efforts to identify a possible suspect.

The glimpse portrays Baththa as a rough character and also hints at tensions in his relationship with his wife, played by Lijomol Jose.

‘Baththa’ stars Vijay Sethupathi and Lijomol Jose in the lead roles. The film is directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, known for ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’, and is presented by filmmaker Atlee.

The technical crew includes music composer Sai Abhyankkar, cinematographer Selvakumar S.K., editor R. Kalaivanan and production designer T Muthuraj.

‘Baththa’ is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 1, 2026.
