Centre Notifies Appointment of 14 Judicial Officers as Judges, Additional Judges in Four High Courts

The Centre has notified the appointment of 14 judicial officers as judges and additional judges in four High Courts — Delhi, Jharkhand, Karnataka, and Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh — following recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments in a post on X, stating that the President, in exercise of powers conferred by the Constitution and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India (CJI), had appointed the judicial officers to the respective High Courts.

For the Delhi High Court, Nivedita Anil Sharma and Nisha Sahay Saxena have been appointed as judges, while Sanjay Sharma, Bharat Parashar, Dr Aditi Choudhary, Dinesh Bhatt and Arun Bhardwaj have been appointed as additional judges.

Yash Paul Bourney has been appointed as a judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

In the Jharkhand High Court, Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma have been appointed as judges.

The Karnataka High Court will have Usharani, K.S. Bharath Kumar and Nerale V. Bhavani as additional judges.

The appointments follow the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium headed by CJI Surya Kant at its meeting on September 10, 2026.

The Collegium had recommended the appointment of the judicial officers for the four High Courts, including Nivedita Anil Sharma, Nisha Sahay Saxena, Sanjay Sharma-I, Bharat Parashar, Dr Aditi Choudhary, Dinesh Bhatt and Arun Bhardwaj for the Delhi High Court.

It had separately recommended Yash Paul Bourney for appointment as a judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

For the Jharkhand High Court, the Collegium approved the appointment of Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma as judges. It also approved the appointment of Usharani, K.S. Bharath Kumar and Nerale Veerabhadraiah Bhavani as additional judges of the Karnataka High Court.

The notifications mark the formal completion of the appointment process following the Collegium’s recommendations and the subsequent approval and appointment under the constitutional process.
