Kannur, September 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A 32-year-old Bangladeshi national was arrested from the Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala in Kerala’s Kannur district after he was allegedly found working in the naval establishment for nearly a year using forged Indian documents.
The accused, identified as Soren, was taken into custody by police and Intelligence agencies following confidential inputs received by the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
According to investigators, Soren had allegedly used a fake Aadhaar card showing him as an Indian citizen and a purportedly fake Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) issued by the police in West Bengal to secure employment at the Naval Academy.
Preliminary investigation has indicated that Soren is a Bangladeshi national who allegedly entered India through West Bengal after obtaining forged documents. Police and Intelligence officials are questioning him to establish how he managed to secure employment and remain inside the sensitive naval establishment for such a long period without detection.
Investigators are also examining the circumstances under which he was recruited, including the role of the contractor or agency through which he was engaged and whether proper identity and background verification was conducted before he was permitted to work at the academy.
The arrest comes amid a wider police investigation in Kannur following the detection of Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing in the district using forged Indian identity documents.
In a separate case, four Bangladeshi women were arrested in Kannur in recent days after police raided a rented house at Odenparambu. The women were allegedly working at a spa in Kannur city.
Police reportedly recovered Bangladeshi identity cards along with suspected fake Indian identity documents from them. During questioning, they allegedly told investigators that they had obtained the forged documents in Assam before travelling to Kerala in search of employment.
Following Soren’s arrest, investigators are examining whether an organised network is involved in bringing Bangladeshi nationals into Kerala and arranging forged identity documents and employment for them.
The investigation will also examine possible lapses in the verification procedures followed by contractors and agencies recruiting temporary workers for the Naval Academy.
