Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Friday joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin in Pathankot to flag off the Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra, a campaign focused on the state’s drug crisis and its impact on families.
Chadha shared details of the programme on X, saying he had met families affected by drug abuse and described their experiences as a painful reminder of the human cost of the crisis.
“Drugs don’t just destroy lives. They destroy families,” Chadha said.
The AAP MP alleged that the Punjab government had promised to eradicate the drug menace but had failed to fulfil that commitment. He claimed that the problem had increased over the past four-and-a-half years, alleging that the supply of narcotics, particularly “chitta”, had expanded across the state.
Chadha further claimed that overdose cases and drug consumption had increased and alleged that narcotics were now being delivered to homes on a large scale.
He said Punjab’s youth had been promised jobs, opportunities and a better future, but alleged that families continued to bear the consequences of the spread of drugs.
The Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra was launched from Pathankot in the presence of Nabin and is aimed at drawing public attention to the drug problem and mobilising communities against substance abuse.
The campaign comes amid an ongoing political debate in Punjab over the effectiveness of measures taken to tackle drug trafficking and addiction. Chadha’s participation in the programme and his criticism of the state government add another dimension to the debate.
The yatra is expected to pass through various parts of Punjab in the coming days, with interactions planned with affected families and local communities.
