Union Ministers and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Saturday congratulated the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) after it won three of the four central posts in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections.
ABVP’s Yash Dabas was elected DUSU President, while Riya Chhawdi won the Secretary’s post and Lakshya Raj Singh secured the Joint Secretary’s position. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the Vice-President’s post.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the ABVP candidates and described the result as a reflection of the youth’s faith in the “Nation First” approach.
“Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all workers on the splendid success of ABVP in the Delhi University Students’ Union elections,” Singh said in a post on X.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also congratulated the winners and said the result reflected the views expressed by Delhi University students. He contrasted the Opposition’s campaign messaging with the election outcome and said the result showed that “Gen Z” would not accept what he described as the Opposition’s “lies”.
BJP President Nitin Nabin said the result reflected what he described as young people’s support for “positive and constructive student politics” rooted in the “Nation First” approach and the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra described the outcome as a victory for a “nationalistic mindset”, while BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva said the results showed that young voters were clear about their political choices.
BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also hailed the ABVP’s performance, describing it as the “defeat of Jhooth Ki Goonj” and saying the results reflected support for patriotism, development and the government’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.
The DUSU election recorded a voter turnout of 40.46 per cent across 52 polling centres, the highest in three years. The results were declared after 20 rounds of counting.
