Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India is fully prepared to host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, as the national capital gears up to welcome leaders and high-level representatives from member and partner countries.
Modi shared a video on X showing Bharat Mandapam, the summit venue, decked up ahead of the two-day event. The video concluded with the message, “India is gearing up for BRICS 2026”, while the Prime Minister wrote, “All set for BRICS 2026!”
India is hosting the summit as BRICS chair for 2026. The gathering will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries along with outreach invitees.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian are among the prominent leaders expected to attend the summit.
India’s BRICS chairship is being guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting the Prime Minister’s vision of a people-centric approach based on the principle of “Humanity First”.
The summit is expected to focus on strengthening cooperation among BRICS countries on shared priorities, while leaders will also exchange views on global and regional developments of mutual importance.
BRICS currently comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Its partner countries are Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
India is a founding member of BRICS and has previously held the chairship in 2012, 2016 and 2021. It assumed its fourth chairship on January 1, 2026. This year also marks 20 years since the establishment of BRICS.
Ahead of the summit, Delhi Police and multiple agencies have put elaborate security arrangements in place. Around 15,000 police personnel and 200 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed. Public advisories have also been issued regarding routes that will face restrictions during VVIP movements.
During its 2026 chairship, India has hosted more than 350 meetings and high-level engagements aimed at strengthening the BRICS strategic partnership across three key pillars — political and security cooperation, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, these engagements, along with business-to-business and people-to-people initiatives, have sought to advance BRICS cooperation through practical and development-oriented outcomes.
