More than 12 workers are feared trapped under debris after a portion of an under-construction commercial building collapsed in the Kudasan area of Gandhinagar on Wednesday night, officials said.
At least five injured workers were shifted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital following the incident, while police, fire brigade personnel and emergency teams continued rescue operations at the construction site to locate and evacuate those believed to be trapped.
Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya visited the Civil Hospital and reviewed the treatment of the injured workers. He met the victims and held discussions with doctors and hospital officials, directing them to ensure immediate and comprehensive medical care without any delay.
“Our entire medical team is working to save them, conducting tests such as X-rays and blood tests. If any problems arise later, all specialist doctors—including those for spine-related issues, orthopaedics and surgeries—have been called in,” Pansheriya said.
The Health Minister also met family members at the hospital and assured them of all necessary medical support.
The health department has arranged specialist doctors, nursing staff, medicines and medical equipment at the Civil Hospital. Additional medical teams have been kept ready to treat workers who may be rescued from the site.
The collapse reportedly occurred around 9:15 p.m. while construction work was underway at the ‘Boski The Empire’ commercial building. Police, fire personnel and other emergency teams rushed to the site after receiving information and launched a rescue operation. Ambulances were also deployed to ferry injured workers to hospital.
The exact number of workers present at the site when the structure collapsed was not immediately known. A local resident said around seven or eight injured or rescued workers had been brought to the area, but he could not confirm how many others remained trapped.
The state government said the Health Department was coordinating with the district administration and other agencies involved in the rescue operation and was closely monitoring the situation.
