Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Shingarma Bridge near Kolian village in Bhoa Assembly constituency, marking the start of a major connectivity project in the area.
The bridge will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 17.82 crore. A large number of local residents and Panchayat representatives attended the foundation stone-laying ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Kataruchak said residents of the area had been demanding a bridge at Shingarma for a long time and expressed satisfaction that the Punjab Government had now approved the project.
The Minister said three new bridges had been approved in the Bhoa Assembly constituency, involving an estimated expenditure of around Rs. 62 crore. Construction of the Shingarma Bridge has commenced, while work on a bridge over Jalaliya Nallah is expected to begin within a week. The third bridge is proposed to be constructed at Sambhla near Gharota.
Kataruchak said the Shingarma Bridge would be approximately 165 metres long and 42 metres wide. He said it would significantly improve connectivity for around 60-65 villages located across the Ravi river and help address transportation difficulties faced by residents of the area.
He said the government was undertaking development works related to roads, bridges and other basic infrastructure in the constituency based on local requirements. Several road and other development projects had already been completed in different villages during his tenure, he added.
The Minister also said work was underway on plans for a 100-bed hospital in the area to strengthen healthcare facilities. A separate major bridge project aimed at directly connecting Narot Jaimal Singh with Kiri is also under process, with efforts being made to commence its construction soon.
Kataruchak said improving connectivity and strengthening basic infrastructure remained among his key priorities for Bhoa constituency. He expressed confidence that the Shingarma Bridge would benefit residents, improve connectivity and help ease traffic-related problems.
