The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is positioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public office as a transformation in governance, arguing that India has moved from an era of “policy paralysis” to one focused on infrastructure, entrepreneurship, manufacturing and global ambition.
At a press briefing on Wednesday, BJP president Nitin Nabin said the Modi years should be viewed not merely through the lens of political longevity but through changes in the relationship between the government and citizens. With Modi completing 25 years in public office in October, the BJP is focusing its campaign on what it says has changed on the ground.
In its presentation, the BJP contrasted the Modi era with the previous Congress-led period, which Nabin described as being marked by policy paralysis and an economy that was internationally counted among the “Fragile-5”. The party said governance subsequently shifted towards execution-driven programmes, welfare delivery and large-scale infrastructure development.
For young Indians, the BJP is placing particular emphasis on economic opportunity. The party highlighted the growth of India’s startup ecosystem and said a new generation is increasingly looking beyond conventional government and private-sector employment towards entrepreneurship and job creation.
Its proposed “Seva First – Innovation Challenge”, aimed at students, startups, professionals and innovators, is part of that broader pitch.
The BJP has also linked youth aspirations with manufacturing, defence production, space technology, digital infrastructure and sports. Programmes such as “Khelo India” and “Fit India” were cited as initiatives aimed at encouraging young people to participate beyond traditional academic and employment pathways.
The party’s wider argument is that Modi’s governance has sought to expand the scale of Indian ambition. Welfare programmes, it said, are being positioned not only as forms of assistance but also as platforms for greater participation through housing, sanitation, food security, social-security coverage and access to government schemes.
The same approach has been extended to women, with the BJP highlighting what it describes as a shift from “women’s development” to “women-led development”. It cited initiatives including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Lakhpati Didi and the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.
The BJP’s political message is that Modi’s record should be assessed not only by the number of schemes introduced but also by whether citizens, particularly young people, have developed greater confidence in their ability to build businesses, create jobs and pursue larger ambitions.
Against this backdrop, the BJP’s month-long “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan”, beginning September 17, is being presented as a platform to communicate the party’s governance narrative rather than simply mark Modi’s 25 years in public life.
