Vigilance Bureau Nabs Mahesh Kumar Red-Handed Accepting Rs. 7,000 Bribe at Nurmahal Sewa Kendra

Chandigarh, September 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Wednesday arrested Mahesh Kumar, a Help Desk official at Sewa Kendra, Nurmahal in Jalandhar district, red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 7,000.

According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the accused was arrested following a complaint lodged by a resident of Nurmahal village in Jalandhar district.

The complainant’s relative had applied for a marriage certificate at Sewa Kendra, Nurmahal, on August 24, 2026. The complainant later met Mahesh Kumar and requested early issuance of the certificate.

The accused allegedly demanded Rs. 7,000 as a bribe and assured the complainant that the marriage certificate would be issued within two days. The complainant reportedly recorded the conversation concerning the alleged bribe demand.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Jalandhar Range. Acting on the complaint, the VB team laid a trap and arrested Mahesh Kumar while allegedly accepting Rs. 7,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station in Jalandhar. Further investigation into the case is underway.
