Kolkata, September 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday warned that “anti-national forces” and those insulting saffron would be uprooted from the state, while leading a saffron-themed rally in Kolkata to protest alleged anti-national slogans and graffiti at Jadavpur University (JU).

Adhikari led the “Gerua Sanman Yatra” (Saffron Pride Walk) from Golpark Crossing in south Kolkata to 8B Bus Stand Crossing, near the JU campus. Dressed in a saffron kurta, he led the procession, which was also attended by West Bengal Commerce and Industries Minister Tapas Roy, Jadavpur BJP legislator Sarbari Mukhopadhyay and several monks.

The rally was organised against slogans and graffiti allegedly raised or displayed on the university campus, including “Kashmir Mange Azadi”. Addressing participants at the conclusion of the march, Adhikari said he had taken an oath to act against groups raising such slogans or expressing support for slain Maoist leader Kisanji.

“I have taken an oath to uproot those people raising slogans like ‘Kashmir Mange Azadi’ or giving red salutes to slain Maoist leader, Kisanji in JU, which is a centre of excellence,” he said.

Referring to his political journey, Adhikari said he had taken an oath in 2011 to remove the Communists from West Bengal and another in 2026 to remove what he described as “pro-Jamaat forces” from the state.

“Now I promise that saffron will be everywhere in the great land of great people Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Swami Vivekananda and Rishi Aurobindo,” he said.

The rally concluded with participants, including the Chief Minister, singing the full version of the national song Vande Mataram, followed by Adhikari’s address in which he reiterated his warning against anti-national forces and those he accused of insulting saffron.

The Chief Minister had issued a similar warning last month while attending a Raksha Bandhan programme at JU, where around 10,000 people participated in singing the full version of Vande Mataram.

Jadavpur University was in the news last month following clashes between activists of the CPI-M’s student wing, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The confrontation led to protests by both groups and further unrest on the campus.

The BJP subsequently organised a protest meeting outside the university, which was addressed by Adhikari.
