Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted an alleged cross-border narcotics and illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of two men and the recovery of 5 kg of ICE (crystal methamphetamine) and three foreign-made pistols, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Sohan Singh, a resident of village Chogawan in Amritsar, and Saleem, a resident of village Bandala in Amritsar.
According to the DGP, the recovered weapons include two 9mm pistols and one .30-bore pistol, along with magazines. Police also seized a Splendor motorcycle allegedly being used to transport the smuggled consignment.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation indicated that the module was allegedly being operated in coordination with smugglers based abroad. Drug and weapon consignments were reportedly being received and subsequently supplied through associates.
Sharing details of the operation, the DGP said CI Amritsar received specific intelligence that Sohan Singh and Saleem were expected to meet at Adda Baoli near Mata Kaulan Hospital on Lopoke Road in Amritsar in connection with the delivery of a large consignment of ICE and weapons.
Acting on the input, CI teams conducted a raid and intercepted both suspects at the location. The search led to the recovery of 5 kg of ICE and three pistols, police said.
Yadav said investigators have also identified a key member of the alleged module and police teams are conducting raids to apprehend him.
Further investigation is underway to establish the complete forward and backward linkages of the network, identify other individuals involved and dismantle the wider illegal arms and narcotics trafficking network, the DGP said.
A case has been registered as FIR No. 55 dated September 9, 2026, under Sections 22, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Police Station, State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
