Chandigarh, September 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, Anindita Mitra, IAS, has urged citizens to verify their details in the Draft Electoral Roll published under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 and submit claims or objections by September 12, 2026.
As per the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the Draft Electoral Roll was published on August 13, 2026, while the Final Electoral Roll will be published on October 12, 2026, she said.
Mitra particularly appealed to young citizens who have attained or will attain the age of 18 years on or before October 1, 2026, to apply for enrolment as new voters by submitting Form 6.
She said eligible Overseas Citizens of India (NRIs) can also register as voters by submitting Form 6A.
Citizens whose names are already included in the Draft Electoral Roll can use Form 8 for correction of entries, change of address or updating other details.
Applications and forms can be submitted online through the Election Commission’s voter services portal, through the ECINET mobile application, or offline through Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Applicants can also approach the offices of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).
Mitra appealed to all eligible citizens to make use of the revision process and ensure that their electoral details are accurate.
“Voting is not merely a civic duty, but a fundamental constitutional right through which young citizens actively shape the governance and future of the nation,” she said.
Emphasising the importance of youth participation, the CEO said, “Youth participation forms the cornerstone of a vibrant and resilient democracy.”
