Singing legend Dolly Parton has been laid to rest beside her late husband, Carl Thomas Dean, following an intimate family funeral at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
Dean died in March 2025 at the age of 82. Parton was laid to rest beside him, according to a tribute shared by her niece Lainey Parton on Instagram on Saturday.
Lainey posted a series of photographs of herself with the singer over the years and described Parton as a deeply supportive presence who encouraged her dreams from childhood.
In her emotional tribute, Lainey recalled how her grandmother made her feel capable of achieving anything and said she could not remember a bad memory involving her.
She also spoke about Parton’s decision to include her on the Smoky Mountain DNA album. Lainey said she was a freshman in high school at the time and was nervous about performing alongside her famous aunt, but Parton made her feel safe and confident.
As Lainey grew older, Parton continued to support her ambitions. When Lainey decided to attend beauty school rather than college, Parton encouraged her choice, financially supported her education and helped her begin her career.
Lainey said she remained grateful for the opportunities she shared with Parton, including appearing alongside her in a movie. She added that those memories, photographs and recordings would help her cope with the loss.
The private funeral brought members of Parton’s family together as they bid farewell to the singer and celebrated her enduring influence on their lives.
