Veteran actor Anupam Kher has been honoured with a special proclamation by the State of Ohio, recognising his more than four-decade journey in cinema and his live stage performance Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane in Columbus.
Kher shared a picture of himself with the proclamation on Instagram and expressed gratitude to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel for the recognition.
Calling the honour an “extraordinary feeling”, Kher said he accepted it with “immense pride and humility”.
He also dedicated the recognition to the Indian film industry, which he said gave him his identity, as well as the cast and crew of Jaane Pehchaane Anjaane.
“To be welcomed and recognised in this manner, so far away from home, is deeply moving,” Kher wrote, thanking Ohio for what he described as an unforgettable honour.
Kher made his acting debut in 1984 with Mahesh Bhatt’s drama film Saaransh. Over the years, he has appeared in a wide range of films, including Karma, Tezaab, Chaalbaaz, Vijay, Ram Lakhan, Daddy, Saudagar, Dil, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Special 26, Uunchai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, among many others.
His latest film is Tanvi The Great, which follows Tanvi Raina, a 21-year-old woman on the autism spectrum who lives with her mother Vidya and grandfather Colonel Pratap Raina.
Inspired by her late father, an Indian Army officer who dreamed of saluting the national flag at Siachen Glacier, Tanvi becomes determined to join the Army and fulfil his dream.
