Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), August 27, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
An old rivalry between two groups associated with the Karni Sena turned deadly after a late-night clash at a dhaba in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain, leaving two men dead, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place around midnight at Lucky Darbar Dhaba in the Kanipura area following an argument between members of the two groups.
According to police, the confrontation intensified after one side allegedly called for reinforcements. Around 12 to 15 armed men reportedly reached the dhaba and attacked members of the rival group with knives and swords.
The deceased were identified as Rahul Darbar alias Vijay Pratap, 42, a resident of Neemanwasa, and Jitendra Pawar, 35, who ran the dhaba and lived in Undasa.
Rahul sustained serious injuries and was taken to a private hospital, where he died during treatment. Jitendra’s body was subsequently found in bushes located a short distance from the dhaba, police said.
Investigators are piecing together the sequence of events based on statements from the injured and other people present at the scene.
Rahul’s maternal uncle, Hemant Singh Chauhan, told police that Rahul’s younger brother received a call from a man identified as Shakti Singh around 11 p.m. During the call, Shakti allegedly warned him to “save your brother if you can”.
Family members then went to the dhaba and found Rahul injured.
According to Chauhan, Rahul and Shakti had gone to the dhaba after an earlier dispute involving Rahul and Arpit over a child had been settled. During their stay, an argument reportedly broke out, following which Shakti allegedly slapped Rahul. Rahul is accused of retaliating by striking Shakti on the head with a spoon.
Another injured man, Shravan, told police that the initial quarrel was brought under control. Shakti allegedly later called Sonu Banjara and summoned several associates to the spot.
Police said Shakti was also injured in the clash and is undergoing treatment. Arpit, Mohan Bana and Sonu Banjara are currently absconding.
The Chimanganj police are investigating the alleged longstanding rivalry, the immediate trigger for the confrontation and the individual roles of those involved.
“We are investigating all aspects of the incident, including the motive and the role of each accused, and appropriate action will be taken on the basis of the evidence,” Chimanganj police station SHO Vivek Kanodia said.
