A 24-year-old man was killed in a road accident on the Khichripur flyover in the Ghazipur area of east Delhi early Wednesday, police officials said.
The deceased, identified as Nikhil, was reportedly travelling from Ghaziabad to his home in Janakpuri when the accident occurred. A crowd gathered at the spot following the incident.
Local residents alleged that there was a delay of around 30 to 40 minutes in the arrival of the police and ambulance, triggering anger among people at the scene. The allegations could not be independently verified.
Police subsequently took possession of the body and sent it to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances leading to the accident.
Investigators are examining the vehicle involved and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras to determine how the crash occurred and identify any other factors or persons involved.
Nikhil’s uncle, Satish, told IANS that the family was informed about the accident while Nikhil was returning from his elder brother’s house.
“He was returning from his elder brother’s house. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known. Only after an investigation will certain things become clear,” he said.
Police said further investigation is underway and additional details are awaited.
The accident comes days after another fatal road crash in Delhi, in which an SUV hit a couple near Kailash Colony Metro Station in Greater Kailash-I on Sunday evening. The woman, 71-year-old Shashi, died, while her husband was injured. Police arrested the SUV driver, identified as Tapan Ahir, at the spot.
