No Date Finalised Yet for Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman’s India Visit: Minister

Dhaka, August 13, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Bangladesh has not yet finalised dates for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s proposed visit to India, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said on Thursday.

Responding to media queries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the minister said Rahman was currently occupied with various matters concerning Bangladesh and that his foreign visits, including a possible trip to India, would be scheduled after consultations with the respective countries.

She said there was scope for resolving several bilateral issues whenever the leaders of India and Bangladesh met or held discussions.

The remarks come days after India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, met Rahman and described the meeting as “fruitful”. Trivedi said India and Bangladesh not only share a border but also “share dreams”.

The Indian envoy also held a separate meeting with Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. Discussions during the meetings focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

Following his meeting with Rahman, the Indian High Commission said Trivedi conveyed India’s willingness to work with the Bangladeshi government and people in a “positive, constructive and forward-looking manner”.

The two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations with a people-centric approach, the High Commission said.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Rahman, Trivedi said India was looking forward to a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart.

He expressed confidence that direct discussions between the two leaders could help address issues between the two countries, while stressing the importance of maintaining good bilateral relations.

The envoy said differences were natural in democracies but described good relations between the people of the two countries as the common objective.

The latest developments come amid efforts by India and Bangladesh to strengthen bilateral engagement through diplomatic channels.
