CM Suvendu Adhikari Visits Mithun Chakraborty in Kolkata Hospital, Says Actor Recovering Well

Kolkata, August 7, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday visited veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty at a private hospital in Kolkata, where the actor-politician is undergoing treatment after a minor surgery.

Adhikari shared pictures of his meeting with Chakraborty on social media and said he interacted with the actor to enquire about his health condition.

“Renowned film actor and one of the members of the Central Committee of BJP, Mithun Chakraborty, is admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata due to physical illness. I went to the hospital to meet him today. I spoke to him and took information about his physical condition. I pray to the merciful God for his speedy recovery,” the Chief Minister said in his Facebook post.

Speaking to mediapersons later, Adhikari said Chakraborty underwent a minor operation on Thursday night and is recovering well.

“He had informed our party’s state president Samik Bhattacharya and me about it last night. He did not want publicity over the development. He is doing well and will be released soon,” Adhikari said.

The Chief Minister also met the doctors attending to Chakraborty and took updates on his health.

Describing the actor as an asset of Bengal, Adhikari said Chakraborty’s contribution goes beyond his political career. He added that the actor played an important role in supporting the BJP’s political growth in West Bengal.

“Mithun Chakraborty’s identity is beyond just his political life. His contribution behind the beginning of a nationalist government in West Bengal is immense. A small operation was performed and he is doing well now,” Adhikari said.

Chakraborty, who was earlier a Rajya Sabha member from the Trinamool Congress, distanced himself from the party and resigned from the Upper House in 2016, citing health reasons. His decision came amid controversies involving several Trinamool leaders in connection with the multi-crore Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund cases.

He later joined the BJP and actively campaigned for the party during elections, including the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections.

Despite facing occasional health-related issues, Chakraborty has continued to balance his film assignments and political commitments.
