The Donald Trump administration has deported more than three million undocumented immigrants and prevented their release into the United States for 15 consecutive months, the White House has claimed in a broad account of its immigration enforcement record.
The figures were included in a White House fact sheet issued alongside two executive orders signed by President Trump. The orders seek to restrict birthright citizenship for certain categories of children and direct federal agencies to crack down on so-called birth tourism.
According to the White House, thousands of those deported had been convicted of violent crimes. However, the administration did not provide a detailed breakdown of the deportations, including the migrants’ nationalities or the period covered by the reported figure.
The White House also claimed that no undocumented migrants had been released into the country for 15 consecutive months, attributing the record to measures introduced by Trump after returning to office.
During his first week in office, Trump signed an executive order declaring a crisis at the US southern border and directing federal agencies to take immediate action against illegal immigration. The administration said the measures helped reverse policies of the previous government.
The fact sheet also highlighted stricter visa screening and the suspension of visa processing for 75 countries. It did not identify the countries involved, specify when the suspensions began or clarify which visa categories were affected.
The administration said the measures were aimed at protecting national security and discouraging foreign nationals from remaining in the US beyond their authorised periods of admission.
The White House further highlighted what it described as an unprecedented denaturalisation campaign targeting individuals accused of fraudulently obtaining US citizenship. It said claims had been filed against 88 people who allegedly obtained citizenship despite being ineligible. No details about the individuals or the status of the proceedings were provided.
The administration also claimed that taxpayer-funded benefits had been terminated for more than 1.4 million undocumented immigrants who were allegedly receiving public assistance improperly. It said undocumented migrants had also been excluded from more than a dozen taxpayer-funded healthcare programmes, without providing details of the programmes or a state-wise breakdown.
Changes to the US citizenship test were cited as another component of Trump’s immigration agenda. The administration said the revised test was intended to assess applicants’ knowledge of American history, government and civic values.
The White House also said it was working to remove tens of thousands of undocumented migrants from state voter rolls. While federal elections are restricted to US citizens, the administration did not identify the states involved or provide figures for completed removals.
