Student organisations in Jharkhand will stage a march to the State Assembly on Friday as their agitation against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) enters its 14th day.
The “Vidhan Sabha March” is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with organisers calling upon job aspirants and students from across the state to participate in large numbers. Protesters say the demonstration aims to demand a transparent and corruption-free recruitment system in Jharkhand.
The agitation, centred at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi, has gained support from several student organisations, whose representatives have joined the protest in solidarity. They have reiterated demands for greater transparency and accountability in the state’s recruitment process.
The protesting students had earlier announced plans to gherao the Assembly during the ongoing Monsoon Session. However, they have maintained that their primary demand is not the resignation of any individual but the cancellation of recruitment examinations allegedly marred by irregularities and the constitution of a judicial inquiry into the matter.
Student leader Devendra Mahto continued his indefinite hunger strike on Thursday, while fellow protesters remained at the demonstration site overnight despite continuous rainfall. The students asserted that adverse weather conditions would not deter their movement and vowed to continue the protest until concrete action is taken by the authorities.
The protesters have consistently maintained that the agitation is non-political. According to them, the movement is being sustained through voluntary public support, with food and refreshments being provided by local temples and various social organisations.
The protest has emerged as one of the largest student-led movements in the state in recent weeks, with demonstrators demanding reforms aimed at restoring confidence in Jharkhand’s public recruitment process.
